Milton Arts Guild Members Show Interprets “AMERICA” by Simon and Garfunkel
Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner's pies
And we walked off to look for America
Cathy, I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America….
In 1968 Simon and Garfunkel recorded "America", a song that creates a cinematic vista that tells of the singer's search for a literal and physical America that seems to have disappeared, along with the country’s beauty and ideals. Look at how the mood of the song slides from optimistic exuberance to a feeling of emptiness with each verse painting a slightly different mood among the two lovers. The MAG members became involved with the lyrics and the song’s meaning and made their own interpretation in the form of paintings, photography and sculpture. This must see show and sale will stir your emotions and give you an uplifting and often serious sense of the America we love.
The Milton Arts Guild is committed to bringing quality centered art to the art collector and the local community and is excited to announce their AMERICA SHOW which will be on display at the Milton Arts Guild Gallery in Milton, DE.
The show will open with a reception on Friday, June 27, from 5-7pm and reception attendees will enjoy complimentary refreshments from Po’ Boys Creole and Fresh Catch and Gooey Donuts.
