Through Saturday, September 28
Delaware History Museum, Wilmington
Join Delaware Historical Society Executive Director Dr. David Young and Museum of the American Revolution President and CEO Dr. R. Scott Stephenson for a Revolutionary reunion and be sure not to miss this opportunity to see this remarkable collection at home in Delaware before viewing the full exhibition in Philadelphia.
Following a skirmish at Cooch's Bridge in Newark, Delaware, in September 1777, British Light Infantry officer Captain Dansey captured a flag from the Delaware Militia and took it home to England as a war trophy. A century and a half later, both the flag and Dansey’s letters returned to Delaware where they have become treasured highlights of the Delaware Historical Society’s collections. The newly conserved Dansey flag and a selection of his letters will now be reunited with a portrait of William Dansey in military uniform, courtesy of a loan from the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment Museum in Halifax, United Kingdom. All three items will be unveiled together at the Delaware History Museum before travelling to the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, where they will be featured in Redcoat and Revolutions: Richard St. George in America and Ireland, on display from September 26, 2019-February 17, 2020.
